cleanPortfolio 2.0

cleanPortfolio is a tumblr theme originally conceived by me as a showcase for my photography. I’ve been sporadically working to perfect the basic design concept used here since the late nineties. None of the web-based attempts really amounted to anything, and as such, the only surviving early prototypes can be found on CD based family photo albums given to my mother.

So when I decided that tumblr would be a good place to showcase my photography, I spent a good amount of time searching for a theme that would really put the focus on the photographs. After a month or so, finding nothing that really did what I needed it to do, I set to work creating a theme from scratch. The basic idea is simple: if you remove the content from the portfolio, there’s nothing left over. Just a blank screen. As such, the first versions of the theme were on a black background. No text, just thumbnails and images. Although my tumblr is using the most current version of the code, it is still identical to that very first version.

My goal in continuing to improve upon this theme is to eventually make everything seen on screen configurable by the user, while maintaining the portfolio-as-blank-slate concept.
